Senator Smart Adeyemi has stated that he once sponsored a bill in the National Assembly that proposed the death penalty for anyone found guilty of corruption. Adeyemi said the purpose of the bill was to make Nigeria a better country by putting an end to the stealing of public funds.
In an interview with Channels Television from 7:54, Adeyemi said after he introduced the bill, both Christian and Muslim lawmakers in the Senate later came together and rejected the bill. He said they expressed fear that if the bill was passed, it might one day be used against some of them
Adeyemi said some of his colleagues in the Senate even accused him of being sponsored by Iran. He said he is a Christian and have never been to Iran
In Adeyemi’s words: “Are you aware I once sponsored a bill for death penalty for corruption? You can Google it. I said I saw the nakedness of Nigeria in the National Assembly and I said the only way for this country to move forward is to start killing those who are found guilty of corruption. Some of my colleagues made allegation that I was sponsored by Iran, I have never been to Iran, I am a Christian. Christians and Muslims at that time in the Senate came together and killed the bill. They said ‘If we pass this bill one day it will be used to kill some of us’. I said well it is not everybody, it is only people that are found guilty” View, More,
