Amid the tensions generated as a result of the threat issued by president Donald Trump, the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluyede has sent a soothing message to Soldiers and Nigerians at large. According to his statements which were shared by VANGUARD the DHQ on their official X handle, he pointed out that a soldier was not afraid of threats.
It was no longer news that the controversial designation slammed on Nigeria by President Donald Trump and the follow-up threat to sanction military actions generated tensions after the pronouncement was made.
However, while many civilians and the political class cowered in fear, the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Oluyede was unmoved as he sent a strong message to Nigerian soldiers and the populace.
According to the cryptic message from the Defence Chief which was shared on the official handle of the Defence Headquarters on Friday November 7th 2025, Nigerians were assured of the military’s readiness to combat.
The message captured, “Duty above fear”, indicated that the military was ready and willing to defend Nigerians against insurgency, insurgents, bandits, banditry, terrorists and possibly from president Donald Trump’s threat.
The Chief of Defence Staff who had relatively maintained silence over the controversial threat to sanction military operations in Nigeria, disclosed that soldiers do not run away from danger as they have an element of madness in them, unlike right thinking men.
“Every soldier has an element of madness…For while the right thinking man Withdraws from danger, a soldier charges towards it.” He declared cryptically. View, More,
