In a recent interview on News Central TV from 21:46, Abdul Danbature, President of the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership, responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks on alleged genocide in Nigeria.

Danbature emphasized that the term “bandits” has long been used to downplay the violence affecting northern Nigeria, which includes kidnappings, village attacks, and mass killings. “If Donald Trump is coming to destroy the word ‘bandits,’ we are in support of that,” he said. “These are not mere bandits; they are terrorists destroying lives, and we must call them what they truly are.”

He also addressed Trump’s claims about targeted attacks on Christians, noting that while the comments have stirred controversy, they highlight the urgent need to confront insecurity in Nigeria. “Trump’s statement may be divisive, but it brings attention to the severity of these attacks. Recognizing the problem clearly is the first step toward a solution,” Danbature added.

Further, he called on Nigerian authorities to act decisively, stressing that political correctness should not prevent the country from tackling organized terror. “You cannot defeat your enemies if you mislabel them. This is terrorism, not ordinary criminality,” he asserted.

Highlighting the importance of international support, Danbature urged foreign partners, especially the U.S., to provide intelligence and technological assistance to strengthen Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts. “We don’t need sympathy; we need real partnerships that save lives,” he concluded.
