According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Southern Kaduna Christian leaders has described the recent decision of United States President Donald Trump to list Nigeria as a “country of concern” as a wake-up call to Nigerian authorities.
They said the move highlights the long-standing persecution of Christians in Northern Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA), Apostle Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, said the designation reflects what many have been saying for years that Christians in the North face discrimination and targeted violence.
He noted that Trump’s decision should not be seen only as a political move but as a challenge to Nigerian leaders to act responsibly.
According to Kure, the country’s leaders have ignored the cries of minority Christian communities who have suffered from injustice, land seizures, and lack of political representation.
He said some churches in northern states are not allowed to build places of worship, while mosques are freely established, questioning whether Nigeria operates under equal laws for all citizens.
He accused past governments and northern elites of ignoring the signs of religious intolerance.
Kure expressed disappointment that many church leaders have not spoken up strongly enough against the injustices, urging them to take a more active role in defending their faith and promoting peace.
“At last, someone, somewhere, has taken notice of the plight of Christians in Northern Nigeria, a plight our own government has consistently failed to acknowledge, let alone address. In many northern cities and universities, such as Bayero and Sokoto, churches are not permitted to be built while mosques abound,” Kure stated. View, More,
