In an interview on News Central TV from 2:00, renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has dismissed claims linking herdsmen and Boko Haram insurgents to Islam, insisting that the groups do not represent the teachings or values of the religion.
Sheikh Gumi emphasized that many of those involved in violent activities lack proper religious education and cannot be described as true Muslims.
He stated that the narrative portraying the crisis as a religious conflict is misleading and harmful to national unity.
In his words, “I have spoken with herdsmen; they are hardly Muslims. They don’t pray, they smoke Indian hemp, and these Boko Haram people are not even educated in religion at all. I am telling you, they are agents, creation of the Pentagon. In fact, since 9/11, they have been trying to cause commotion in Muslim majority states, but Nigeria is different because we have Christians.”
He urged both Muslims and Christians to reject divisive narratives and work together to restore peace and justice across the country.
The cleric also called on the international community to avoid labeling Nigeria’s internal security challenges as religious extremism, stressing that such mischaracterization fuels misunderstanding and stigmatization of innocent citizens. View, More,
