Solomon Dalung, the former Minister of Youths and Sport, has challenged the current administration’s commitment to the foundational alliance of the ruling party during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday from 25:19 , November 2, 2024.
Dalung questioned the treatment of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
The former Minister’s comments focused on the perceived strained relationship between President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, despite their partnership that brought the All Progressives Congress (APC) to power.
Dalung argued that any political issues between Tinubu and the deceased Buhari should not extend to those who served in the former president’s government.
He implied a rift by questioning the current president’s actions toward Buhari while he was alive.
The former Minister recalled a conversation with Buhari, who disclosed that the composition of his government, including the Vice President, certain ministers, and heads of some government agencies, were nominations made by Tinubu as part of their political understanding.
Dalung pointedly demanded that President Tinubu name just one individual from Buhari’s core camp who is currently serving in the present administration.
He offered a public apology and a pledge of loyalty if the President could meet this challenge, suggesting a fundamental breakdown in the loyalty and continuity expected from the political collaboration that defined the APC’s formation and initial tenure.
While Dalung acknowledged President Tinubu’s role in providing a respectable funeral for Buhari, he maintained that the relationship during the former president’s lifetime was less than satisfactory.
He said, “If Tinubu had problem with Buhari, does he have to problem with those who served the government? If Tinubu didn’t have problem with Buhari, why did he treat him the way he did? Buhari told me that Tinubu nominated his Vice President, some Ministers, and advisers, even heads of some government agencies. That was the partnership they had. Can Tinubu tell me now one person from Buhari’s camp that is in his government? If he can point one person to me, I will apologize to him publicly and follow whatever he is going to do. I thank Tinubu for giving Buhari a befitting; he didn’t treat him well when he was alive.” View, More,
