A security analyst has alleged that United States President Donald Trump violated international law by threatening military action within Nigeria’s borders to combat terrorist groups.

Dr. Kabir Adamu made the assessment during an interview with Arise TV from 7:26, labelling Trump’s approach as a departure from established diplomatic norms. “What is surprising is this escalation—to threaten to attack a sovereign state. This is completely against the rules-based system that we are used to, you know, that the world has embraced. One country cannot threaten the sovereignty of another state over an allegation that it has not even allowed the other country to respond to,” he stated.

The security expert suggested that domestic political considerations drive Trump’s threatening rhetoric toward foreign nations. “So clearly, there are other issues at play here, and one of the issues at play is domestic politics in the US. A lot of what is going on really is to align and strengthen and consolidate his grassroots support, as it were, by mentioning things around, you know, protecting Christianity across the world. That resonates very well with his local support base,” Adamu explained.

Dr. Adamu expressed uncertainty about whether Trump would follow through on his military threats against Nigeria while noting that he has taken concrete action in other countries facing different circumstances.

Dr. Adamu noted that while the Venezuelan case involves tangible connections to domestic US problems through narcotics trade, the Nigerian situation revolves around religious protection rhetoric that may primarily serve to energize Trump’s evangelical Christian support base rather than address genuine strategic American interests.
