According to the video from SYMFONI TV from 4:17, The wave of defections in the National Assembly continued on Thursday as the Senator representing Bayelsa East, Benson Agadaga, announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the Senate’s plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio formally announced the development while reading Senator Agadaga’s letter of resignation from the PDP.
Akpabio, in his characteristic light-hearted tone, said, “Distinguished leader, leader of the Senate, I’m going to hand this letter over to you because Senator Moustapha does not want me to read this letter. Have you noticed that Senator Zam, no matter how he tries to distract me, I’ll read this letter. No weapon fashioned against this letter shall prosper.”
He then proceeded to read the letter from the Bayelsa lawmaker, stating, “Now, this letter is from Distinguished Senator Agadaga. It actually says: Notice of resignation from the People’s Democratic Party and formal movement, formal movement and defection. He calls it defection to the All Progressives Congress.”
Senator Agadaga reportedly cited internal issues within the PDP as his reason for leaving, describing the party’s structure as unstable and saying that “the umbrella is leaking.”
With this move, the APC continues to strengthen its presence in the upper chamber as political realignments intensify ahead of the next election cycle. View, More,
