During the Senate screening of the new Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Senator Abdul Ningi raised a serious question about the use of Nigeria’s expensive fighter aircraft, the Super Tucanos.
In a video shared by TV Platinum from 1:16, Ningi reminded the Senate that since former President Muhammadu Buhari took office in 2015, the Nigerian military has received 32 brand-new aircraft, including six Super Tucanos bought for about $1.2 billion.
He told the new Air Chief, “Since late President Buhari assumed office in 2015, the Nigerian military has taken delivery of a total of 32 Brand New aircraft, with the latest being 6 Super Tucanos at a cost of 1.2 billion US dollars. Air Vice Marshall, Where are our Tucanos, and why are they not running?”
In response, AVM Aneke assured lawmakers that the aircraft were being used effectively. He explained that the Super Tucanos were fully operational and mainly stationed in the North East and North West, where the fight against terrorists and bandits is ongoing.
He added that Air Force pilots and crew members were risking their lives every night to protect Nigerians. “The Super Tucanos are doing what they were paid to do,” he said, noting that the weapons and technology on the aircraft are extremely costly.
Aneke also explained that while the Air Force can’t publicly display all their operations for security reasons, Nigerians are getting value for the money spent. View, More,
