According to Jerusalem Post, Ahead of a high-stakes meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, President Donald Trump announced on his social platform that the United States would resume nuclear testing parity with rival powers.
“Because of other countries’ testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis.
That process will begin immediately, Trump said on Truth Social, ahead of the meeting with Xi in South Korea.
Trump also weighed in on the shifting global balance of military power.
“Russia is second, and China is a distant third, but will be even within 5 years, he noted.
The comments made as international leaders converge for talks aimed at reducing tensions in the Indo-Pacific, drew immediate attention from diplomats and analysts who warned that rhetoric on nuclear testing risks escalating regional arms competition.
Officials from Washington and Beijing have not confirmed any policy changes since the posts, and it remained unclear whether Trump’s directive reflects formal administration action or political signaling.
Separately, CNN reported that Iran is rebuilding its ballistic missile manufacturing capabilities with aid from China, despite the guidance of United Nations sanctions, underscoring concerns about proliferating missile technologies in the region.
The developments come amid continuing global talks over arms control and nonproliferation, and at a time when the international community has sought to tighten restrictions on missile and nuclear-related transfers.
Experts say that renewed testing or expanded missile production could complicate diplomatic efforts and trigger calls for stronger inspections and enforcement measures.
This is a developing story, and officials from the United States, China, Russia and Iran did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Observers will be watching closely for any formal announcements or policy shifts following the leaders’ summit in Seoul, and global security implications. View, More,
