Atedo Peterside has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, under the leadership of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, describing the conduct of the previous elections as deeply flawed.

According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, October 27, 2025, Peterside alleged that the commission’s official election result platform, the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), contained clear evidence of manipulation that could be verified by anyone willing to examine it closely.

In his words, “If you have time, you just have to go on the IReV. I can take you there myself and show you result sheet which they manipulated.”

Peterside explained that discrepancies on the IReV platform were not isolated or accidental, alleging that entire result sheets had been altered after polling units concluded their vote counts. He said these inconsistencies could still be viewed publicly on the commission’s portal.

He emphasized that the evidence of tampering was so obvious that, in some cases, the figures and written words on the same result sheet did not correspond. According to him, this suggested a lack of oversight and a deliberate attempt to distort the actual vote tallies.

The founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc and Anap Foundation maintained that such irregularities were unacceptable for a country seeking credible elections. He said the failures recorded under Yakubu’s tenure eroded public confidence in the nation’s electoral process.

Peterside’s remarks came while discussing the expectations surrounding the newly appointed INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, who is set to oversee upcoming off-cycle elections in Anambra and Ekiti States. He urged the new leadership to confront and correct the lapses inherited from the past administration.

He noted that many of the disputed result sheets remained accessible online and could serve as reference points for investigating what went wrong during the 2023 general elections. He said such transparency should form the foundation for genuine electoral reforms moving forward.

Peterside further stated that without addressing the manipulations evident on the IReV portal, any promise of electoral improvement would remain hollow. He added that restoring trust would require accountability for those responsible for the inconsistencies. View, More,
