In an interview with Daily Independent on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, founder of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and former presidential candidate, has stated that the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, commands deep and natural love from his people.
Nwanyanwu compared Kanu’s popularity to that of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
He said both men enjoy what he described as “organic support,” which comes directly from the people and not through political influence or manipulation.
According to him, Nnamdi Kanu’s connection with his followers is so strong that he does not need to speak before they act or show loyalty.
Nwanyanwu recalled advising President Bola Tinubu about the political situation in Rivers State, saying that Fubara’s support among his people was genuine and powerful.
He likened it to Kanu’s bond with the South-East population, noting that both men represent the voices of their regions.
He stressed that such leaders should not be ignored or suppressed because their influence is rooted in real public love.
The ZLP leader said this kind of popular support cannot be destroyed through intimidation or detention.
He urged the federal government to recognise the importance of people like Kanu, who inspire hope and unity among their followers.
“Nnamdi Kanu is loved by the people. It is like when they were chasing Fubara. I told President Tinubu, the issue about 2027, the person to do business with is Fubara. Are you seeing what is happening there now? They have loved, they have loved, organic support. Nnamdi Kanu need not talk to anybody,” he said.
