Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted sharply to the planned protest by human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, over the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Sowore had earlier announced that he would lead a peaceful nationwide protest on Monday, October 20, demanding Kanu’s release. Kanu has been held since 2021 after being brought back from Kenya to face terrorism charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Responding to this via X, Olayinka took to social media, calling Sowore a “Cashtivist” — a word used to describe activists who allegedly protest for personal gain. He challenged Sowore to also go to Finland after Monday’s protest to demand the release of Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based separatist known for supporting IPOB’s controversial “sit-at-home” orders in parts of the Southeast.

Olayinka’s comment, “What is good for Nnamdi should be good for Simon Ekpa,” suggests that Sowore’s activism should be fair and balanced. If he believes Kanu deserves freedom, then Ekpa, who shares similar views, should also benefit from the same advocacy.

Here’s a screenshot of his post.

In his words, “After Monday, October 20, Cashtivist Sowore must also go to Finland to hold a free Simon Ekpa protest. What is good for Nnamdi should be good for Simon Ekpa.” See, More, Here>>>
