According to a Friday 17 of October, 2025, report by Anadolu English, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has asserted on Thursday that Russia remains the only nation in the world with competencies across the entire chain of nuclear generation, emphasizing the country’s comprehensive expertise in the sector.
His remarks came during the plenary session of the 8th Russian Energy Week international forum held in Moscow where he addressed the ongoing restructuring of global energy relations and the challenges facing both Russia and the broader international energy market.
Putin characterized the current reshaping of energy systems as a “natural and objective process”, driven largely by emerging economic centers and the corresponding rise in energy consumption across the Global South.
However, he also accused “certain Western elites” of deliberately destabilizing the global energy order through what he described as aggressive and politically motivated interventions.
“At the same time, we are also witnessing an artificial disruption of the energy system, driven by the aggressive and assertive actions of certain Western elites,” he said.
He criticized European countries for turning away from Russian energy supplies under what he called “political pressure,” arguing that the consequences are now visible across the European Union (EU). These include reduced industrial output, soaring prices due to costly energy imports and declining competitiveness in the European market.
Despite such developments, Putin said Russia remains resilient in the face of what he labelled as “unfair competition,” maintaining its status as one of the world’s top oil producers. Russia, he noted, accounts for approximately 10% of global oil production, and is projected to produce 510 million tons of oil in 2025.
He emphasized the increasing shift in energy logistics toward the Asia-Pacific, Africa and Latin America, regions that he said offer “more reliable routes” and opportunities for building long-term infrastructure such as new ports and hubs to meet future energy demand.
Putin also touted Russia’s energy mix as environmentally sustainable, stating that “87% of the country’s energy production has a low or zero carbon footprint.”
Highlighting the strategic importance of nuclear energy, he noted Russia’s ongoing involvement in constructing nuclear power plants in Bangladesh, Egypt and Türkiye. He affirmed intentions to expand partnerships in the nuclear sector with BRICS nations and the Global South.
“We are working very actively in this sphere,” he said, predicting that nuclear power will become “a key pillar of the future global energy balance,” with global capacity expected to nearly double by 2050. See, More, Here>>>
