The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has once again made headlines after challenging former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to compare his record as a governor with the FCT’s achievements under his own leadership.
In a post shared on X by his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, speaking during the commissioning of a road project in Abuja, Wike said the project was completed after a “responsible citizen” drew their attention to it. He praised such citizens who help the government identify public needs, saying that was how good governance works.
However, the event took a political turn when Wike responded to recent criticism from Peter Obi. According to Wike, Obi had visited a school in Abuja and claimed that the FCT administration had not provided toilets for the students. Wike dismissed Obi’s comment, accusing him of playing politics with everything.
He went further to question Obi’s performance as governor of Anambra State, alleging that Obi failed to develop the entire state during his eight-year tenure and instead kept public funds in private banks. Wike argued that Obi’s poor record is the reason his successors have struggled.
The FCT Minister then boldly challenged Obi to publicly compare what he achieved in Anambra with what the FCT has accomplished in just two years. He also criticized Obi’s leadership style, saying someone who couldn’t manage a political party cannot claim to manage a country.
Here’s a screenshot of the post.
In his words, “I challenge him to come out publicly and compare what he did for 8 years in Anambra with what we have done in the FCT in just two years.” See, More, Here>>>
