Veritas University has confirmed the dismissal of a former reverend sister identified as Annastasia, following her involvement in an examination malpractice incident that violated the institution’s academic integrity standards.
Ben Agande, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Veritas University, revealed during an interview on Arise News from 4:18, that Sister Annastasia joined the university in November 2024. However, just five months into her tenure at the Catholic institution, she was implicated in helping a student evade examination malpractice sanctions.
“Sister Annastasia got into Veritas around 2024, November, 5 months after, she was involved in examination malpractice. She assisted a student in attempt to evade examination malpractice,” Agande stated during the broadcast.
The incident has raised serious questions about academic integrity at the Abuja-based university, particularly given Sister Annastasia’s religious background and expected adherence to higher ethical standards. The nature of her assistance to the student was not elaborated upon during the interview, but the university administration took swift action in response to the violation.
Veritas University, owned by the Catholic Church and known for its strict ethical standards, maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward examination malpractice. The institution has built its reputation on producing graduates of strong moral character alongside academic excellence.
The dismissal sends a clear message that no member of staff, regardless of their position or religious affiliation, is above the university’s code of conduct. Academic institutions across Nigeria have been grappling with various forms of examination malpractice, from student cheating to staff complicity in compromising examination integrity.
