In a Facebook broadcast from 4:26, Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, issued a warning to President Bola Tinubu over the ongoing detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, saying the move could have severe political repercussions.
Ayodele accused the government of mishandling Kanu’s case and urged the president to release him as a gesture of peace and national reconciliation. “Why are you still keeping Nnamdi Kanu?” he asked pointedly. “You have freed people who have killed, yet you detain him. Those giving you this advice will make you lose your second term.”
His comments come amid public debate about Kanu’s continued imprisonment despite multiple court orders for his release. The cleric argued that disregarding these rulings could deepen discontent and instability across the country.
“This is not just a political issue; it is a spiritual matter,” Ayodele said. “If the president wants Nigeria to be at peace, justice must prevail. Holding him indefinitely will only increase bitterness in the South-East.”
Ayodele cautioned Tinubu to avoid decisions that could tarnish his leadership reputation ahead of 2027, urging him to embrace forgiveness over confrontation. “The people’s voice matters,” he emphasized. “Those who advise you to keep Kanu are misleading you. Reconciliation, not revenge, will preserve your legacy.”
He concluded by reminding the government that genuine peace is only possible when justice and equality guide its actions. See, More, Here>>>
