Human Rights Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to pardon certain convicted individuals who, according to him, did not deserve such privilege due to the gravity of their offences.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television from 6:4, Effiong mentioned Maryam Sanda as one of the individuals recently pardoned by the President. He firmly argued that she did not deserve such clemency.

He recalled that Maryam Sanda was convicted after a court confirmed in 2020 that she had murdered her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, in a horrific manner by stabbing him multiple times.

“You also look at the other names on the list like Maryam Sanda. I am not sure if she merits a pardon or whether this is a right time to issue a pardon to her. Here is a woman in 2020 that the court confirmed gruesomely murdered her husband in 2017. She did so in the most vicious way, stabbed him multiple times and the gentle man is now in the grave.”

Effiong added that the supposed reason given for her pardon was not substantial enough when weighed against the severity of her offence.

“Now we are being told that in the interest of the children and in the interest of the family and because she has allegedly shown remorse, let us forgive and let her have a new lease of life and let her be released. What becomes of the family of Bilyaminu, the deceased husband, that she murdered. These are the questions.” See, More, Here>>>
