Senator Victor Umeh has shared the painful moment he learned about the death of Arise TV anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, describing how his son rushed to deliver the shocking news on the morning of her passing.

The senator representing Anambra Central District spoke during a tribute night for the late journalist, in media coverage provided by Symfoni TV from 11:12. “I stand before you as the senator representing Anambra Central District, and that’s the district of Sommie. That’s my local government, and my community is just next to her community,” Umeh stated, establishing his connection to Maduagwu’s hometown.

The senator then recounted the distressing morning when he first learned of her death. “On the morning of 29th September when she died, my son ran into my room in panic, he said ‘Daddy, somebody died.’ I said, ‘Who is that?’ He said, ‘Oh my God, she is somebody from Agulu.’ Agulu is our neighboring community,” he recalled.

Umeh described his confusion as details slowly emerged. “I said, ‘Who is that?’ He said he knew her from London. I said, ‘What happened to her?’ He said there was a robbery attack where she lived at Katampe. I said, ‘What happened to her then?’ He said, ‘She’s dead,” he recounted.

The senator revealed how family members quickly reached out to confirm the tragedy. “Less than 15 minutes later, her cousin—Sommie’s cousin—called me from Atlanta: Dr. Mrs. Chukwu. Her uncle, Chief Levi, Chief O. Maduagwu, was the chairman of our own local government when he was alive at a time. So I now knew what had happened to us. I couldn’t believe the news myself,” he said.

Senator Umeh reflected on the universal impact of losing good people. He argued that when a good person leaves the world, everywhere will be in disarray. See, More, Here>>>
