In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara warned that he will personally destroy any dredger operating dangerously close to a bridge, lamenting that if he destroys the dredger, people will say he’s a very wicked man.
In an interview with Symfoni TV from 5:12, Fubara warned that he will not tolerate activities that threaten safety. The governor delivered the warning during a site inspection where he expressed frustration with slow progress of the contractors and pledged decisive action if work does not improve within one month.
Fubara reviewed this contract awarded in June 2020 by Nyesom Wike, his predecessor, and faulted the contractor, RAFOR, for failing to meet targets despite being granted two variations meant to accelerate completion.
He said repeated meetings produced no tangible outcomes and expressed his disappointment with the contractor’s performance. He recalled that the sole administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, once evaluated and cancelled the project. Fubara said he may adopt similar strict measures if the current contractor does not meet expectations.
The governor raised alarm after observing dredging carried out perilously close to a bridge, calling the practice improper and hazardous.
Fubara issued a final ultimatum that if dredging continues near the bridge or if he receives reports of such activity, he will personally supervise the destruction of the equipment.
As he said, “Another part of my discovery today is, how could a normal human being be dredging very close to a bridge? Is it proper? If I destroy the dredger now, they’ll say Fubara is a very wicked man.”
“I don’t even know who owns the dredger, maybe someone from another political party. They will say I’m doing it because of wickedness, but this is a last warning.”
“If I come here any other time or get any information that dredging activity is being conducted around this area, moreover close to this bridge, I will personally supervise and destroy the dredger myself.” See, More, Here>>>
