According to the Anadolu agency, Türkiye’s intelligence chief, Ibrahim Kalin, said on Friday that the newly declared Gaza ceasefire marks the end of a painful era and the start of what he called a “historic turning point” for the Middle East, but warned that peace will only last if the world remains vigilant.

Speaking at the opening of the National Intelligence Academy’s International Congress on Intelligence Studies in Ankara, Kalin reflected on the heavy toll of the conflict and urged patience and care in the days ahead.

“With the establishment of the ceasefire in Gaza, as of this morning, we have left behind an important period in our recent history,” said Kalin, who heads Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT). “The genocide policies carried out against the people of Gaza for two years have, as of today, ended with this ceasefire.”

The truce, announced earlier this week by US President Donald Trump as part of his 20-point peace plan, includes the exchange of 2,000 Palestinian prisoners for Israeli captives, a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the creation of a new administration supported by Arab and Islamic countries.

But Kalin cautioned that the ceasefire’s success is not guaranteed. “The implementation of the ceasefire will be our most important responsibility,” he said. “It requires sensitivity and attention, as violations or acts of sabotage can always occur in such fragile environments. But as of today, we have a ceasefire before us.”

Calling the truce a “first step, not the final destination,” Kalin said true peace will only come when a sovereign Palestinian state is established and a two-state solution is realized.

“The real solution will only come when a Palestinian state is established and a two-state solution is implemented in the Middle East,” he noted, emphasizing that Türkiye remains committed to supporting that vision.

Reflecting on the lessons of the negotiations, Kalin added, “Where mutual trust is lacking, what resolves problems is willpower, intent, determination and the hope these generate.”

For Kalin, the message was clear: the guns may be silent for now, but ensuring lasting peace in Gaza will require unwavering watchfulness, diplomacy, and faith in dialogue over destruction. See, More, Here>>>
