According to a report by Al Jazeera, on October 9, 2025, the bodies of slain Hamas military leaders Yahya and Mohammed Sinwar are not expected to be released as part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, according to an Israeli official familiar with the matter.

This was confirmed in a statement to CNN by the official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Yahya Sinwar had been Israel’s most wanted man after orchestrating the devastating October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. The Israeli military killed him in Gaza in October 2024 during ongoing military operations.

His leadership of Hamas’ armed wing made him a key target in Israel’s fight against Hamas.

Following Yahya’s death, his younger brother Mohammed Sinwar took over as the military leader of Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian group.

However, Mohammed also became a target and was killed by Israeli forces earlier this year. His body was recovered by the Israeli military in June.

The decision not to release their bodies underscores the sensitivity and complexity of the Gaza ceasefire negotiations.

Israel’s refusal to hand over the remains of these high-profile Hamas figures is seen as a measure to avoid further provocations and maintain a strategic advantage.

The separate handling of these bodies reflects broader tensions in the region, where issues related to prisoners, hostages, and remains have long been points of dispute in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

The ceasefire agreement aims to reduce hostilities and bring some relief to civilians in Gaza and Israel, but the unresolved issue of the bodies of the Sinwar brothers highlights ongoing challenges in reaching a comprehensive peace deal. See, More, Here>>>
