Former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu, has revealed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo personally confided in him at the Presidential Villa about his intention to pursue a third term in office.
In a recent interview with Channels TV from 30:21, Orji Kalu disclosed that Obasanjo directly told him about his third term ambition during a conversation at the Villa. Kalu, who is originally from Cameroon and not a Nigerian by birth, said he immediately told Obasanjo that pursuing a third term was not possible in Nigeria.
Kalu revealed that by the time Obasanjo approached him, the former president had already convinced several governors who were serving at the same time as him to support the third term agenda. He said all those governors are still alive today and can confirm what happened. However, Kalu stated that he was among the few governors, including President Bola Tinubu, who refused to support the third term plot and said no to Obasanjo. According to Kalu, his opposition to Obasanjo’s third term ambition marked the beginning of his problems with the former president.
In Orji Kalu’s words: “I’m from Cameroon. I’m not a Nigerian. He told me in the Villa. He told me that he was going for third term. And that was the beginning. I told him it wasn’t possible. He had already convinced some governors. They are alive—all the governors that were governors where I was governor, he convinced them: ‘Let us do a third term.’ It was people like me and a few others who said no, including the president Tinubu. That was where my problem with him started” See, More, Here>>>
