According to a Tuesday 7 of October, 2025 report by Anadolu English, in a forceful statement Tuesday, Senator Bernie Sanders has called on the United States (US) to immediately halt military assistance to the Israeli government, condemning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration for its handling of the ongoing war in Gaza.

Marking the second year of the conflict, Sanders acknowledged Israel’s right to self-defence but sharply criticized what he described as a disproportionate military campaign that has devastated the Palestinian population.

“Tragically, however, Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, and his extremist government did not simply go to war against Hamas terrorists. Instead, they unleashed an all-out war against the entire Palestinian people. The horrors of that war cannot be overstated,” Sanders said.

According to the senator, more than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed, and nearly 170,000 injured in Gaza, a territory home to 2.2 million people. He cited widespread devastation, severe shortages of food and medicine, and mass displacement, attributing much of the suffering to Israel’s blockade and ongoing military operations.

Sanders also voiced his support for the International Criminal Court’s pursuit of war crimes indictments against Israeli leaders, including Netanyahu.

“The United States can no longer be complicit in this horrific tragedy. We must stop providing military support to the Netanyahu government,” he declared.

While reaffirming his condemnation of Hamas, Sanders emphasized the need for a political resolution that addresses both Israeli security concerns and Palestinian rights.

“We must secure a lasting ceasefire that stops the killing, brings the remaining hostages home, allows for a massive surge of humanitarian aid into Gaza and provides Palestinians with a path towards a state of their own,” he said.

Sanders’ remarks come amid growing international criticism of Israel’s military actions and increasing pressure on the Biden administration to take a firmer stance. The senator has been a consistent advocate for Palestinian rights and has frequently criticized what he sees as unconditional U.S. support for the Israeli government.

His statement marks one of the strongest condemnations yet from a senior U.S. lawmaker and signals rising tensions within the Democratic Party over America’s role in the Israel-Gaza conflict. See, More, Here>>>
