Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei marked the second anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation, the October 7, 2023, assault by Hamas on Israel, with a statement released on Tuesday.
In a post on X, Khamenei described the operation as a courageous response to “over 70 years of Zionist regime’s crimes,” referencing the historical grievances tied to the establishment of Israel in 1948 and subsequent conflicts.
Khamenei asserted that the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation, which saw Hamas militants breach Israeli borders, resulted in “an irreparable defeat” for Israel.
He claimed, “Today, it’s the most despised regime in the world & there’s now a global resistance against Zionism.”
The statement, accompanied by an image of a devastated urban landscape—presumed to be Gaza—underscored the ongoing toll of the ensuing war, which has persisted for two years.
The Supreme Leader’s remarks frame the operation as a pivotal moment, suggesting it has shifted international perceptions and galvanized opposition to Israeli policies.
He did not elaborate on specific events but tied the action to a broader narrative of resistance against what he described as decades of displacement and occupation.
The Al-Aqsa Flood Operation, launched on October 7, 2023, involved a surprise attack by Hamas, including rocket barrages and incursions into southern Israel, killing nearly 1,200 people and abducting 251 others, according to Israeli reports.
Israel’s retaliatory campaign in Gaza has since claimed over 66,000 Palestinian lives, per regional health authorities, leveling vast areas of the enclave.
Khamenei’s statement reflects Iran’s continued support for Palestinian factions, including Hamas, amid ongoing tensions and stalled ceasefire negotiations mediated internationally. See, More, Here>>>
