The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has lauded Indonesia’s remarkable progress in education and healthcare, describing the country as a shining example of effective governance and social development.
Obi, who recently visited Indonesia on a one-week trip, shared details of his experience during meetings with key government officials, including the Minister of Education and Minister of Health.
He said the visit opened his eyes to how consistent investment in human capital could transform a nation.
In a video shared by Arise News, he stated, “I was able to get the opportunity to visit Indonesia for one week. I met with the Minister of Education and asked, how do you people have over ninety percent literacy? We also met the Minister of Health, who said they have 95% health insurance coverage. In fact, Indonesia has the best health insurance system today of any country you can think of. Once you’re sick, you’re treated and cured. Every village has a functional primary health care centre with at least two nurses working there and a doctor who visits maybe three or four times a week. They have three times the number of villages we have, and it’s all functional.”
The former Anambra State governor explained that Nigeria has a lot to learn from Indonesia’s approach, especially in ensuring that education and healthcare are accessible to all citizens, regardless of their location.
