Former presidential candidate of Nigeria’s Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has once again emphasized the need for humility and simplicity among political leaders, drawing inspiration from the lifestyle of Indonesia’s former President, Joko Widodo.

Obi recounted his visit to Widodo’s hometown in Indonesia, where he was struck by the leader’s modest way of life despite his high political status.

In a video shared by Arise News from 2:06, he stated, “I just told children I went to his [Joko Widodo] village to look for him. And when I got there where he lived, you can’t park two vehicles inside. No, I parked on the road. And I asked him, he said, I live here as local government chairman. I live there as governor and 10 years after being president I like living with the villagers and that’s it.”

Obi said the encounter reminded him of how leadership should be rooted in service and humility rather than luxury and excess.

He noted that Widodo’s example reflects a style of leadership that prioritizes connection with the people and accountability, values that should guide those in public office. See, More, Here>>>
