Kanayo Esinolu, a former personal assistant to the late General Emeka Ojukwu, has stated that he was imprisoned during the regime of General Yakubu Gowon because of his association with Ojukwu
In an interview with Edmund Obilo from 2:09, Esinolu said he was deeply emotional when he saw the body of the late human rights lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi, lying in state at his home because Gani was the one who fought for him to be released from prison.
Esinolu said he was detained in Kirikiri Prison and placed in solitary confinement. He said his uncle later sought the help of Gani who decided to represent him. He said Gani took over his case and fought hard to secure his release.
Speaking further, Esinolu said Gani even compelled the authorities to take him to a hospital because he was suffering from arthritis and could barely walk. He described Gani as a fearless defender of justice who stood by him when he had no one else.
In Esinolu’s words: “He was the arrowhead, that was why when I saw him lying in state at his residence dead, I don’t know who came for that burial that didn’t know that somebody was not just crying but mourning. I could not believe that Gani is lying in a box” See, More, Here>>>
