Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has stated that during his time as Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North East, the military had to use abandoned and dilapidated vehicles, including some left from the Nigerian Civil War, because of the poor state of equipment in the theatre.

According to a report by Punch on Sunday, October 5, 2025, General Irabor said between March 2016 and May 2017, when he led the counter-insurgency operation, the condition of military hardware was so bad that he had to assign Captain Mohammed Narogo to help solve the problem. He said Narogo’s task was to repair broken-down vehicles, and through his skill and creativity, he brought several damaged vehicles back to life. He said, “I tasked Captain Mohammed Narogo with undertaking the responsibility, and he was ingenious in bringing back to service some of the vehicle wreckages”
