Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, has stated that the federal government decided to install integrated solar lighting in Abuja to tackle the problem of insecurity in the city.
In a video shared by Channels Television from 32:13, Wike said that sometimes while rushing to the airport to receive President Tinubu, the entire route would be in darkness. He said as the person responsible for fixing the problem, it became a nightmare for him. He stated that the stress began to cause him minor migraines.
Wike said that in 2024 he traveled with President Tinubu to Beijing, China, to find a lasting solution. He stated that during the trip they signed a contract with a company that would light up Abuja using solar power. Wike said the company also agreed to take measures to prevent sabotage by installing surveillance cameras and maintaining the solar lighting system
