Bishop Matthew Kukah has stated that Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa openly commended the work of Catholic missionaries in building schools and shaping education in Nigeria.

In an interview with Arise TV from 22:38, Bishop Kukah said today the same schools built by the Catholic Church have been taken over by the government and renamed. He said in the past the most prestigious schools in Kaduna were St. John’s College, where Major Nzeogwu studied, and Queen of Apostles College. He said both schools were built by the Catholic church but have since been taken over and given Muslim names.

In Bishop Kukah’s words: “If you go back and read Tafawa Balewa’s speech for example, he openly commended the work of the missionaries of the Catholic Church. But today, that same work, the schools we built have been taken over. In Kaduna the most prestigious school was St John’s College where Nzeogwu went to and Queen of Apostles. Those schools have been taken over and given Muslim names” See, More, Here>>>
