According to a report by The Punch on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed all commissioners and public office holders in his administration following a recent Supreme Court ruling.

The directive was announced in Port Harcourt through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, on Wednesday evening.

Fubara made the announcement during a valedictory session with his outgoing cabinet at the Government House as part of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary activities. He expressed appreciation to the affected officials for their service over the past two years and acknowledged their contributions to the state’s development.

The governor urged citizens to work together for national peace and progress, pledging to continue serving Rivers people “with renewed vigour.” He reaffirmed his loyalty to the electorate and wished Nigerians a happy Independence celebration.

The mass dismissal is linked to the Supreme Court’s judgment, which reportedly affected the legitimacy of certain appointments made during Fubara’s tenure. “All commissioners and other public officers impacted by the judgment are hereby relieved of their duties with immediate effect,” the statement read.

This move comes after former emergency administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), appointed by President Bola Tinubu, had earlier suspended all Fubara-era appointees, dissolved boards, and halted parastatal activities. Since Ibas left office on September 18, the status of many appointees had remained uncertain.

Following the end of emergency rule, the Rivers State House of Assembly requested Fubara to present a fresh list of commissioner nominees along with the 2025 budget for screening. See, More, Here>>>
