The Lagos State govenment has responded to the statement that was made by the former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi after he visited the ASPAMDA Market in Lagos state.
Peter Obi, after visiting the market alongside some lawamkers and aides, said it is unfortunate that the buildings were pulled down despite that the traders obtained the requisite approvals.
According to Peter Obi;
“I urge government at all levels to act with compassion, fairness, and a deep sense of justice, especially at this difficult time. Many of the affected traders invested heavily, often through loans, in the hope of securing their livelihoods and contributing to the wider economy”.
In a statement that was shared on the official X account of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s aide, Jubril Gawat on October 1, 2025, it was stated that the Lagos state officials who visited the market were beaten up. He also claimed that when the owners of the buildings were summoned for a meeting, they ignored.
According to Jubril Gawat on his official X account;
“When Physical Planning officials visited the complex, the gates were locked against them; they were beaten up. The police rescued them. When the government called the owners for talks, they said they would not come”. See, More, Here>>>
