In an interview on Symfoni TV from 42:38 , Kenneth Okonkwo, a veteran actor and lawyer, explained his assertion that President Bola Tinubu will serve only one term in office, focusing particularly on alleged marginalization of the Southeast region.
Okonkwo issued a strong warning to voters from his region. “Let me start from the Southeast. Whoever is from the Southeast that votes again for this president is not a true son of the Southeast. I say this without any reservation,” he declared.
The lawyer cited what he described as systematic underrepresentation of the Southeast in the current administration’s ministerial appointments. “Already the Southeast people are feeling marginalized because they have only five states, and you can imagine this president that is so mean that he gave us only two ministers,” Okonkwo stated, arguing that the region is constitutionally entitled to five ministerial positions.
He identified the two ministers as holding the science and works portfolios, contrasting this with the previous situation. “When this government came in, we had four ministers. In other places, he changed ministers. He replaced them with ministers. He changed two of our ministers and did not give us ministers again,” he explained.
Okonkwo specifically highlighted the case of Anambra State, which he said lost its ministerial representation. “We had the minister of women affairs in Anambra State. Tinubu took it and did not replace it with another minister,” he noted.
Dismissing the argument that a minister of state adequately represents the region, Okonkwo clarified the distinction. “Don’t tell me ‘minister of state.’ I’ve told you, minister of state is an assistant to the minister of foreign affairs. Yusuf Tuggar, that’s the minister of foreign affairs. So Anambra State now has no substantive minister,” he concluded, emphasizing what he views as a political slight to the Southeast.
