According to a report by The Guardian, on September 30, 2025, Spain’s leftwing labour minister and deputy prime minister, Yolanda Díaz, has strongly condemned the peace plan proposed by former US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a video shared on Bluesky, Díaz described the plan as “an imposition” rather than a genuine peace effort.

“Trump and Netanyahu’s plan for Palestine isn’t a peace plan; it’s an imposition. It’s an ultimatum, dressed up as an agreement, which comes without any guarantees and without any timeframe for a Palestinian state,” Díaz said, highlighting her rejection of the deal’s legitimacy.

She further criticized the plan for excluding Palestinians from the process.

“This plan has been put together without Palestine. It ignores its institutions and its people, and it proposes turning Gaza into a protectorate overseen by the US and with Israel setting the pace,” Díaz added.

Her comments stand in sharp contrast to those of Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who welcomed the plan earlier that day. Sánchez described it as a necessary step to “put an end to so much suffering” in the region.

Díaz’s opposition underscores divisions within Spain’s government: she leads the Sumar alliance, the junior partner in Sánchez’s socialist-led coalition.

Díaz has been a vocal critic of Israel’s Gaza offensive, accusing it of genocide, a position that has drawn strong reactions from the Israeli government.

Last month, Israel announced that Díaz would be denied entry due to her “anti-Israel and antisemitic vision,” according to Israel’s foreign ministry.

The disagreement within Spain reflects broader international controversies surrounding the peace plan, which many Palestinian supporters and some international figures see as biased and lacking meaningful guarantees for Palestinian rights and sovereignty. See, More, Here>>>
