Lagos State Information and Strategy Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso has dismissed claims that recent demolition exercises, including those at the Trade Fair Complex, are targeting specific ethnic groups, emphasizing that the operations are purely for safety and environmental reasons.

Following widespread demolitions across the state, some residents have expressed concerns that certain communities are being unfairly targeted based on their ethnicity.

Speaking during an interview with Arise TV from 25:08, Commissioner Omotoso firmly rejected any suggestions of ethnic bias in the government’s actions. “Lagos State government under Sanwo-Olu is never going to target anybody on the basis of ethnicity. He has run this state now for about six years without anybody being targeted in any way because of your color, because of your language, because of your religion. No, it’s not so, and it’s never going to be so at all,” he stated.

The commissioner sought to reassure residents about their place in the state regardless of their background. “People should feel relaxed. Nobody is going to pursue anybody out of Lagos State. We are all Lagosians. And we are proud to be Lagosians,” Omotoso declared.

He explained that the demolitions are primarily driven by environmental and safety concerns, particularly flood prevention.

The commissioner revealed that environmental experts have identified serious drainage problems in some upscale areas of the state.

According to him, environmental specialists have discovered that some houses in the Lekki Axis are being constructed on drainage channels, which poses significant flooding risks.

Commissioner Omotoso indicated that the Lagos State government is prepared to take decisive action against such structures, regardless of potential public reaction.

He noted that the government will begin demolishing buildings constructed on drainage channels in the Lekki area, emphasizing that public safety takes precedence over individual concerns about the impact on property owners. See, More, Here>>>
