Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tiwa Savage, has shared new details about her 2021 leaked sex tape, describing it as one of the hardest moments of her life. Speaking in a recent interview, the singer explained how the incident left a deep mark on her personal life, career, and mental health.
According to a report by Punch on Wednesday September 24, 2925, Tiwa revealed that at first, she was told the tape got out by mistake. Her boyfriend at the time claimed he had pressed send by accident while trying to save it. However, she later discovered the truth—that the video was deliberately shared as part of a cruel bet among his friends.
The leak caused massive backlash online. Many people wrongly assumed Tiwa staged it to get attention, with some even attacking her role as a mother. She said those harsh words, especially suggestions that her son would be ashamed of her, hurt her more than the tape itself.
At the time, Tiwa tried to cope by using humor and pouring her feelings into her music. Still, she admitted the pain ran deeper than she let on, and even today, she finds it difficult to perform some songs connected to that period.
Despite attempts to pursue justice, the process was too traumatic, and she decided to move on. She has since leaned on her family, especially her mother, for support.
Tiwa also shared that she has been celibate for three years and now values therapy to help her heal and rethink how she views love and intimacy.
