General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, has urged believers to safeguard their families against betrayal, temptation, and covetous influences. In a sermon laced with a cautionary story, the respected cleric highlighted the importance of vigilance in marriage and trust within the Christian community.

Kumuyi began by acknowledging that some people often caution him against telling stories during his messages, but he insisted that his illustrations serve a divine purpose. “You know I heard of a particular… and they tell me not to tell stories, but you know I don’t listen to them because the stories I tell are for a purpose. Say amen,” he told the congregation.

He then recounted a story about a man who, before traveling, entrusted a fellow church member with the care of his wife. “This man was traveling and he called the man. He said, ‘I am traveling, please take care of my wife before I come,’” Kumuyi narrated. However, upon returning, the husband discovered that an inappropriate relationship had developed. The wife later fell ill and sought prayer from a discerning brother within the church, where the truth came to light through her confession.

Kumuyi explained that the story underscored the dangers of misplaced trust and the subtle ways covetousness can creep into family life. “Protect your family, protect your wife, protect your husband,” he admonished. “If you know that somebody is covetous and somebody is going to apply that covetousness to your family, shield your family from him. Let the church give me a good amen.”

The Deeper Life leader warned that even within religious settings, believers must exercise caution and discernment, noting that human weakness can lead to moral failure if families are not properly guarded. He urged Christians not to be naïve about spiritual and relational vulnerabilities but to actively shield their households from influences that could erode their integrity.

Observers say Kumuyi’s message reflects his longstanding emphasis on holiness, purity, and discipline in both personal and family life. Since the founding of Deeper Life in the 1970s, his teachings have often focused on safeguarding the home as the bedrock of Christian living.

His latest admonition, analysts note, resonates in a time when social and moral pressures are straining marriages and family relationships across Nigeria and beyond. By highlighting a case drawn from within the church itself. See, More, Here>>>>

Kumuyi underscored that no community is immune to temptation and that vigilance remains essential.
