‎Former Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Mr. Anthony Sani, has stated that the North wants a fairer share from President Bola Tinubu before deciding on his re-election in 2027, during an interview with The Sun on Sunday, 14 September, 2025.

‎Sani explained that the North played a central role in Tinubu’s rise to power.

‎He recalled that northern delegates backed Tinubu in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary and later supported him during the 2023 general election.

‎Because of this, he said, the region now expects to be rewarded.

‎According to him, the demands include more political appointments, federal projects, and access to contracts.

‎These expectations, he added, are the main reason northern leaders remain divided over whether to support Tinubu for a second term.

‎Sani stressed that politics in Nigeria often operates on a system of reward.

‎He said when a region contributes to the victory of a president, it is natural for that region to ask for recognition in return.

‎For the North, he noted, this recognition must come through fair distribution of national resources.

‎The elder statesman pointed out that some leaders believe continued support for Tinubu could secure more opportunities.

‎However, others argue that the region should demand firm guarantees before making commitments ahead of 2027.

‎This split, he observed, has created tension among northern political figures.

‎While some see Tinubu as the best option to protect the region’s interests, others are already weighing alternatives in the opposition.

‎Sani warned that Tinubu’s response to these concerns will be crucial.

‎”Because it was the North that made it possible for the emergence of Bola Tinubu in both party primary and general elections to become president in 2023, they expect a fairer deal in distribution of access to national resources by way of appointments, projects and contracts,” he said.
