Special Adviser to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Legal Matters, Monday Ubani, SAN, has accused Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of deliberately seeking media attention and creating unnecessary controversy around the Senate.
Speaking during an interview from 8:00, Ubani expressed concern that the recurring disputes involving the lawmaker were becoming a distraction both for the Senate and the Nigerian public.
“A few months ago it was Natasha every day. We are going back to that same thing, all because the woman wants to be in the news all the time. She likes it, she craves it and then tries to paint the institution she wants to go and represent in a bad light,” Ubani stated.
He explained that the Senate is currently on recess and cannot act outside due process, but assured that once the lawmakers reconvene, the matter involving Natasha would be addressed. “The Senate is on recess, and immediately the Senate resumes, the issue of Natasha will be dealt with, and we move on as a nation. So the Senate is on recess presently, so there is no way the Senate will want to toe the line of illegality. They will look at it and address that issue,” he said.
Ubani cautioned against overheating the polity, stressing that such controversies only serve the interests of individuals seeking the spotlight rather than national stability. “This issue of heating up the polity and Natasha occupying the space is what she desires, and we are giving her that. We don’t want that to happen,” he concluded.
