According to a report by Anadolu Agency on September 11, 2025, President Donald Trump delivered a powerful message at a ceremony marking the 24th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

He declared that the United States would relentlessly pursue and decisively defeat any adversaries who threaten the nation.

In his words, “If you attack the United States of America, we will hunt you down and we will find you. We will crush you without mercy, and we will triumph without question.”

Emphasizing America’s historical military successes, he highlighted victories in World War I, World War II, and earlier conflicts, attributing these triumphs to the strength of the former Department of War.

The following day, Trump signed an executive order to reinstate “Department of War” as a secondary title for the Department of Defense, a name it held from 1789 until 1947, when the National Security Act reorganized it into the Department of Defense in 1949.

This order also designates ‘Secretary of War’ as a secondary title for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in official correspondence, public communications, and ceremonial contexts.

The move aims to project a more assertive military posture, emphasizing readiness and a warrior ethos over what Trump and Hegseth have criticized as excessive focus on defensive capabilities and woke policies.

Trump asserted that the name ‘Department of War’ better reflects the military’s purpose of achieving victory, signaling strength to adversaries and restoring national pride in America’s military heritage.

He expressed confidence that Congress, which holds the authority to rename federal agencies, would support the change, though the executive order sidesteps immediate legislative approval by using the title ceremonially.
