Prince Kassim Afegbua, a Commissioner Designate in Edo State, has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan is not accepted in his village, urging him to resist pressure to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television from 24:41, Afegbua insisted that Jonathan should protect his image as an elder statesman instead of re-entering partisan politics.

He argued that Jonathan had already earned global respect for conceding defeat in 2015 and avoiding bloodshed, a legacy he should build upon rather than attempt a political comeback.

Afegbua maintained that with defections of governors, lawmakers, and local leaders from Jonathan’s party, it would be impossible to challenge President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as a skilled strategist who successfully secured the presidency on his first attempt.

Afegbua stressed that Jonathan failed to make meaningful impact in the South-South during his tenure, despite promises to prioritize the region if re-elected in 2015. He urged the former president to run away from those pushing him into the 2027 race.

In his words, “You can’t come to my village, for example, of Okpela, and you want to come and preach Goodluck Jonathan to us. When in the South-South, we knew that he didn’t impact positively on the entire South-South in terms of projects, and this has just been factual.”

“Go and cross-check. I remember when he was campaigning for his election in 2015, he said when he gets the second term that he’s going to focus on the South-South.”

“Those are not the kind of rhetorics I want to be hearing. At this point in time, please, former president, Goodluck Jonathan Ebele, I am being honest with you.”

“I know you are listening to me. Please, run, run away from those who are pushing you to come and contest in 2027.”
