Public affairs analyst Dr. Majeed Dahiru has called for concrete evidence to substantiate sexual harassment allegations made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha.
During an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Dr. Dahiru emphasized that serious allegations require solid proof before being presented to the public or pursued through legal channels.
“While you cannot pursue your sexual harassment allegations against the Senate President, you must also bring out all the evidence available to support it,” Dr. Dahiru stated during the radio program.
The analyst cited a previous case at the University of Lagos as an example of how sexual harassment allegations should be properly documented and presented.
“I’ll give an example: in Lagos, where you’re sitting now, there was a time when sexual harassment allegations rocked the University of Lagos. Before the victims went public, they were able to record the lecturers in question and made it public,” Dr. Dahiru explained.
He noted that the Lagos case was resolved decisively because of the quality of evidence presented.
“I mean, the university authorities, the public—there was no debate. There was no defense for the perpetrator because it was clear, black and white,” the analyst observed.
Dr. Dahiru reiterated his stance on the necessity of evidence when making public accusations against any individual.
“So when you make allegations against anybody, you must be sure you have your evidence—concrete evidence that you can present both to the public and to the court,” he emphasized.
The analyst also challenged conventional wisdom about keeping evidence private, advocating instead for public transparency.
“I’ve heard people say, ‘If you have evidence, don’t take it to the public.’ I said no. It is called proof of evidence. You must use it to substantiate your allegation,” Dr. Dahiru concluded.
The comments come as the Nigerian Senate continues to grapple with the fallout from the allegations and their impact on legislative proceedings.
