Chief Conrad Terhide Utaan, a political analyst and PDP chieftain, has stated that former presidential candidate Peter Obi does not have to aim for the presidency to make a strong impact in Nigeria, during an interview with Daily Independent on Sunday, 7 September, 2025.
Utaan believes Obi needs a period of serious reflection to focus on the country’s growth and long-term development rather than solely satisfying his base.
According to Utaan, Obi has a significant following, but this does not automatically create a clear path to the presidency.
He said that Obi could contribute to national progress in other ways by taking up strategic government roles.
Utaan suggested that Obi could excel as Governor of the Central Bank, Minister of Finance, or Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In these positions, he could influence economic policies, manage national finances, and help strengthen governance structures.
He noted that Obi’s supporters often underline his competence and integrity.
Utaan argued that putting these qualities to use in key government offices could benefit the country more than pursuing a presidential bid at this time.
It would allow him to focus on practical solutions rather than political contests.
”He requires a period of serious reflection and needs to focus more on Nigeria’s growth and future rather than solely satisfying his base.
Obi could excel as Governor of the Central Bank, Minister of Finance, or Secretary to the Government of the Federation. There are numerous roles he could fulfil in government without necessarily becoming president,” he said.
