Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, has issued a stern warning against the mass displacement of Palestinians, emphasizing that such actions constitute a “red line” for his country and would mark the end of the Palestinian cause.
Speaking to reporters in Nicosia, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, accusing it of committing acts tantamount to genocide.
“Displacement is not an option and it is a red line for Egypt. We will not allow it to happen,” Abdelatty said.
According to Times of Israel, he added that forcing Palestinians from their homes would amount to the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, and that there is no legal, moral, or ethical justification for such actions.
The Egyptian minister described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as catastrophic, highlighting mass killings and artificial starvation allegedly created by Israeli forces.
“What is happening on the ground is far beyond the imagination.
There is a genocide in motion, and civilians are suffering,” he stated.
Israel, however, has strongly rejected these allegations, insisting it is making efforts to provide humanitarian aid and protect civilians.
Israeli officials argue that Hamas bears responsibility for civilian harm by operating within populated areas and reportedly diverting aid.
Abdelatty’s comments come as thousands of Gaza City residents defy Israeli evacuation orders amid escalating military operations.
The warning underscores Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and protect Palestinian civilians, reflecting a broader regional concern over the humanitarian crisis.
Egypt’s position aligns with international calls for restraint and emphasizes that any forced displacement could have far-reaching political and ethical consequences, potentially undermining decades of efforts to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
As the conflict enters its 700th day, Abdelatty’s declaration signals that Egypt considers the protection of Gaza’s civilian population a fundamental issue, framing displacement not only as a humanitarian crisis but also as a decisive turning point for the Palestinian national cause.
