Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly dismissed the prediction by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not win the 2027 general elections and might not even make it to a run-off.

Speaking during a live media parley on TVC News on Monday from 00:20, September 1, 2025, Wike was asked about El-Rufai’s assertion that Tinubu could not find a pathway to victory in 2027 and that, in the event of a run-off election, the President would not emerge first or second.

In response, Wike said: “So you want to find out. You see, El-rufai my friend, but he failed in this mathematics. He goofed. He would have completed it, I’m telling you, since I know Tinubu would come third. He should have also provided who would be first and second. You see, I failed in mathematics. How do you arrive at who would be third? Then you will not arrive at who would be first and second. He knows. He should have come out to tell us.”

Wike added that while he admired El-Rufai for speaking his mind, he believed the former governor was wrong in this instance. He continued:“You see, one thing I like about El-rufai is that he speaks his mind, but sometimes he speaks his mind, say the one that is correct. In this one, I’ll put a bet if he agrees. If Tinubu does not win this election squarely, I’ll put a bet.”

He further dismissed comparisons drawn between Tinubu and former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying: “He said that they should ask Jonathan. No two persons are the same. No two persons are the same. The mere fact you are able to survive that, succeed in that of no need, you can do that. We are also here too. So as I’m sitting down here, do I look at somebody like you come and win the Rivers State? It’s not possible.”

Wike also ruled out the possibility of a run-off, stressing: “Which runoff with who? Let me tell you. You see, what you have is complain, complain, complain, complain, complain. They just did by elections. Hold on. You ask a question. They just did by elections. What happened? Complain. Complain. You see, we are used to complaining. I have told you. I don’t like excuses. What I cannot do, what I cannot achieve, I will tell you, this is not possible. It’s not possible. People are just, you see, people are choosing reset. I was watching.”
