The North Central Renaissance Movement has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of misleading Nigerians on its zoning arrangement. In a video posted by Symfoni TV, the group made this claim through their chairperson, Prof. K’tso Nghargbu, insisting that the party’s promises on power rotation are deceptive.
Nghargbu said he listened to the PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, who suggested that the North will only hold the presidency for four years before handing it over. He argued that such a promise is unrealistic and mischievous, stressing that no president will willingly vacate power after a single term.
He questioned why PDP would expect Nigerians to believe such an arrangement when history shows otherwise. He noted that any president who emerges under PDP will likely seek eight years in office, just as past leaders have done.
Nghargbu pointed out that even the current government is not stopping in 2027 but seeking more years to serve, just as former President Goodluck Jonathan once tried to extend his stay before his tenure was cut short.
In his words, “Let me remind us that even the PDP is not telling Nigerians the truth. This morning I listened to the National Chairman Ambassador Damagum saying the North will hold it just for four years.”
“Even from the presentation you know there is some semblance of mischief. Somebody will be in the villa for four years, he will just take it and give it to you? So PDP after four years will say it’s enough?”
“But truly speaking, you know and I know that if PDP gets power they will want to stay there for eight years. If not, why is the current president not stopping by 2027?”
“And it happened to Goodluck. That’s how his tenure was truncated and they said we must remove this man. So our case is beyond zoning and microzoning.”
