Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said that his earlier warnings about the consequences of Bola Tinubu’s rise to power are now playing out in Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview with News Central TV, Momodu recalled that as far back as October 2022, during an appearance on Channels TV, he cautioned that Tinubu’s style of leadership would negatively affect the country. According to him, the current situation shows that those in power are openly pursuing their interests without regard for Nigerians.
He further stressed that the ruling elite has “captured Nigeria,” and only divine intervention, alongside the efforts of the ADC, can bring about meaningful change.
In his words: “I am a democrat! As far back as October 2022, I was on Channels TV when I said if he (Tinubu) gets power, this and this and this is what will happen. It’s happening. These are guys who don’t care. They don’t hide what they want to do. They’ve captured Nigeria, and only God and hopefully ADC will rescue Nigeria. How? I don’t know. But we must make an effort.”
Momodu added that the current reality is far from the democracy many Nigerians fought for, questioning why loyalty to friends, family, or ethnic groups continues to influence national politics.
