Eggs are nutritious and provide protein, vitamins and minerals. However, some popular claims about “dangerous” egg combinations are exaggerated. There are no three ordinary foods that become poisonous simply because they are eaten with eggs. Still, some combinations can be unhealthy because they add excessive sugar, salt, fat or calories, while certain foods may cause digestive discomfort for some people.
1. Eggs and processed meats
Eating eggs with foods such as sausages, bacon and heavily processed meats can create a meal high in saturated fat and sodium. Eating processed meat frequently has been associated with higher health risks, so it is better to eat these foods occasionally rather than making them a regular egg combination.
2. Eggs and heavily sugary foods
Combining eggs with large amounts of sugary foods such as sweet pastries, doughnuts or heavily sweetened drinks does not create a poison, but it can turn a nutritious meal into one containing excessive added sugar and calories. If you eat eggs for breakfast, pairing them with vegetables, whole grains or fruit can be a healthier choice.
3. Eggs and excessive fried foods
Eggs themselves are not inherently unhealthy, but frying them together with large amounts of oil or serving them with several other deep-fried foods can make the meal much higher in calories and unhealthy fats. Using moderate amounts of oil and choosing boiled, poached or lightly fried eggs can make the meal healthier.
