Muslims are a diverse community of over 1.8 billion people worldwide, united by their belief in one God (Allah) and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. In Europe, there are over 44 million Muslims, making up around 6% of the population. While many European countries have a long history of Muslim presence, others have newer and smaller Muslim communities.
Slovakia, a small country in Central Europe, is home to a tiny Muslim population of around 5,000 people. Despite this, Slovakia is the only country in the European Union without a single mosque. Muslims in Slovakia face challenges in finding suitable places to worship and have to pray in private homes or rented spaces. The Muslim community has tried to build a mosque, but they have faced resistance and rejection.
Slovakia’s laws make it hard for new religions to gain recognition and funding, and the country also has a strong Christian tradition. The lack of a mosque in Slovakia highlights the challenges faced by Muslim communities in some parts of Europe and shows how important it is to respect and protect religious freedom. Despite these challenges, the Muslim community in Slovakia remains strong and determined, and they continue to work towards building a mosque where they can worship freely…..Sée Móre
